My gastric Pune vacation

I had made a list of new joints
from every corner of the city.
From fusion foods to tandoori chai,
novel options for this non-resident desi.

My flight landed
My list was ready,
My gut was geared for the ultimate gluttony

But first came breakfast at Vaishali,
cause I missed their sambar the most.
And Darshan followed soon,
for their Baked beans on toast.

And then I pictured the oozing sauce,
from Marzorin’s cheese roll.
So that and Burger King (the original),
were tick marked in one stroll.

Bedekar had to be done,
for that bothersome misal craving.
And for the Maharshtrian Thali,
Shreyas came calling.

With home cooked maa (and sasu maa) ke haath ka khana,
and cousins and friends hosting dinners,
the taste buds were thriving,
and the waist wasn’t getting any thinner.

Yet, I managed to squeeze a visit,
to Ganesh Bhel for the masala puri.
And an evening round at Vaishali (again)
for the pending SPDP. (c’mmon banta hain!)

The rain wasn’t helping
Todos became ‘if time permits’
And gradually my rumbling tummy
Was calling it quits.

Alas in the end my new list
was untouched you see.
Just happy, nostalgic tick marks
by the ‘assal’ Puneri in me.

Pending is the boondi cheesecake,
pending are the liquid nitrogen shots.
And as I sit here drooling about food in Pune
the sambar returns to my thoughts.

Damn, there we go again!
